Proprietary roof space ventilation system comprising ventilating protective strip for eaves, gutter-line, and roof apex.
To suit Corrugated and Trapeziodal materials.
Vent Guard systems are a range of products designed to allow passive ventilation while preventing the entry of bugs, birds and vermin. Products are available to suit gutter line, ridges and head barges, hips and valleys, and can be custom made to suit any other junction.
BugPlugg™ is the profile specific component range. Ideal as a system used with fleece backed roofing.
BugPlugg™ can also be used as a complementary component for bespoke designs requiring passive ventilation, while preventing entry of bugs, spiders, birds and rodents.
The components are available to suit gutter line, hip and valley, ridge line, and head barge or wall abutments, and can be custom designed for many other situations.
The unique design eliminates the need for specialist installation training and does not require complex details. Components can either be installed during roof installation or retrofitted.
BugPlugg™ enhances roof and wall cladding in several ways:
- An aesthetic closure strip
- Weather proofing baffle
- Vermin/pest prevention
- Passive ventilation
The added benefit for designers, building owners, and installers is no added roof or flashing height as the system does not require lifting the roof plane above the existing purlin height.
System and components are tailored to meet the increasing awareness of the need to ventilate ceiling spaces.
They have been developed by NZ roofing industry experts with over 100 years aggregated experience encompassing Technical, Manufacturing and Installation.

OVERVIEW
Vent Guard systems are a range of products designed to allow passive ventilation while preventing the entry of bugs, birds and vermin. Products are available to suit gutter line, ridges and head barges, hips and valleys, and can be custom made to suit any other junction.
MANUFACTURER
Manufactured in New Zealand by Edging Systems limited, 630 Devon Road, New Plymouth.
RELEVANCE TO NZ BUILDING CODE
E3 – Internal Moisture
The use of Vent Guard systems will contribute to compliance with E3.1 (a), E3.2 (a), and E 3.3.1, by facilitating the diffusion of internally generated water vapour to the outside of the building by passive ventilation.
G3 – Ventilation
The use of Vent Guard systems will contribute to compliance with G3.3 (a) and G3.2.1, by preventing insects and vermin gaining entry via passive ventilation pathways.
APPEARANCE
Vent Guard is manufactured from UV stabilised, HDPE (High density Polyethylene). It comprises a profiled shape to fit either under or over the roof profile, with a grid pattern of 4mm x 4mm voids to allow for air movement. Apex systems have a 10 mm clearance height above the roof crest, to allow for free air movement over the roofing stop end.
SCOPE OF USE
Vent guard can be used in any building within the scope of NZBC E3, and other roofs where roof temperatures do not exceed 1000C. It is available for all corrugate and trapezoidal profiles, and selected trough section and tray roofs. It can be used with fleece underlay alternatives, or designs using conventional underlay.
INSTALLATION
Vent Guard may be installed by any competent roofer or builder; it does not require specialised training or equipment. It can be installed during roof installation or retro fitted. As the roof sits flush with the purlin, it does not require lowering of spouting to achieve free air clearance at the eaves.
DESIGN
Vent Guard can be used as a full balanced ventilation system, or individual components can be used to compliment other proprietary systems.
